A game blog from the red-dirt frontier

Slow burns, iron nerves, and quests worth the miles.

Long-form RPG deep-dives, honest playthrough journals and indie discoveries, written from a sun-baked desk in Alexandria, Sydney — for players who like their worlds vast and their reviews unhurried.

What we publish

Columns you can actually set your week by.

Four recurring formats, published on a fixed schedule (AEST) so you always know what's landing next.

The 60-Hour Verdict

Indie & preservation

Runs Found in the Sand. Champions small Aussie studios and refuses to review anything with a marketing embargo attached.

Strategy & build-craft

Handles the Members' Guild breakdowns. Spreadsheets by day, grand-strategy campaigns until 2am. Loves a good damage formula.

"The 60-Hour Verdict on Ashfall Expanse stopped me wasting AU$99 on a game I'd have bounced off in a week. This is the only review site I trust before buying now."

Priya M. — Newtown, Sydney · March 2026

"Found in the Sand put my two-person studio in front of thousands of readers overnight. Honest, generous coverage with zero strings attached."

Jarrah W. — Fremantle, WA · January 2026

"Desert Diaries is the closest thing to a good podcast in written form. I read the Monday entry with my coffee every single week."

Good to know

Frequently asked.

Reading & membership

Is the blog free to read?+

Yes — every review, playthrough journal and indie spotlight is free and always will be. The optional AU$7/month Members' Guild adds early access and monthly build-craft breakdowns, but nothing on the main site is ever paywalled.

Can I cancel my membership anytime?+

Absolutely. Memberships are month-to-month with no lock-in contract. You can cancel from your account page in a couple of clicks and keep access until the end of your current billing period. No emails to send, no hoops.

Reviews & ethics

Do you accept sponsored reviews?+

Never. We don't run paid reviews, affiliate-driven scores or embargoed puff pieces. Coverage is funded entirely by members and readers, which is exactly why we can afford to be blunt when a game doesn't hold up.

How can indie developers get covered?+

Send us a note through the contact form below with a link and a sentence on why it's worth our hours. We prioritise Australian and NZ studios and small teams, and we reply to every pitch — even the ones we can't cover right away.

Schedule

When do new posts go live?+

Desert Diaries lands every Monday, Found in the Sand twice a week, and The 60-Hour Verdict every second Thursday at 9am AEST. Subscribe to the newsletter and you'll get each one the moment it publishes.
